"I have spent years trying to forget zen," - Genpo Roshi (not in a public talk). He said this years ago. I have watched his life go through so many stages, never sticking for too long anywhere.
I feel as though something is really lacking in my life if I don't sit for too long. I need a balance. I am on my way back to formal practice. I spent a long time stuck on Master Joshus' "Ordinary Mind is The Way" but I was far away from that.
Hi Genshin, Rich here. Just saw your blog linked on Facebook so I thought I'd take a look. Looks pretty good. Not a bad way to get connected.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Seattle now. It's about as sunny as England I'd have to say. Quite a change from SLC.
Good luck Genshin
Rich
Hi Rich, is Seattle where they say you rust rather than tan? Good luck!! love, Genshin
ReplyDeleteNo Rusting now. It's gotten as hot as Salt Lake. Ugh!! Though there were some nice cloudy days for a while. Hope it's nice in the U.K.
ReplyDeleteCheers

ReplyDeleteIt's boiling hot here! :-)
ReplyDeleteGenshin, this post reminds me of the habits of people. Genpo Roshi changing so often and going through changes for example is actually a sign of a man who is in the Zone (athlete term for natural rhythm) yet there are the "spectators" who cling to desired outcome and their expectation. On thing I've always admired about Genpo Roshi is his Mastery of FLOW. I must say, he's one of the most natural people I've ever met, which definitely rubs off on the people who study under him -- the monks, lay people and the Sangha. I also like his simplicity as it's very tiring to listen to superfluous ideas, philosophies and theoretical speech from some teachers. It's like they fail to get the point or drive it home but not Genpo Roshi. He makes sense and he doesn't encourage complexity, in fact, it feels he shys away from that despite his capacity to say it so simple it's VERY PROFOUND. Your style of teaching is like his too. I love this and I miss you.
ReplyDeleteI have so many thoughts to share with you. time to write a letter to you perhaps?
